چکیده
A gynandromorph is an organism combining both female- and male-type tissues. While the vast majority of studies have described morphology gynandromorphs, their sexual behaviours remain under-explored. We studied a predominantly bilateral specimen predatory wasp Discoelius dufourii (Hymenoptera: Vespidae: Zethinae) reared from trap-nest. In addition to describing morphology, we explored gynandromorph’s response conspecific female, comparing it with behavioural interactions between normal males females D. phylogenetically related zonalis . For most specific elements, species exhibited greater frequency higher probability occurrences behaviour than did females. However, aggression plopping were prevalent in The gynandromorphic demonstrated activities similar those male, including relatively frequent mate body antennation attempt mount female. approached female less frequently comparison males, not demonstrate substrate jumping, typical male mating behaviour. Based on parameters nest cell, development unfertilized (male) egg was fertilized (female) egg.

Hymenoptera: Vespidae)
Workers in many insect societies interact via body contact with their nest mates, and social biting and other forms of contact may play a general role in regulating task performance. Here I present evidence that social biting affects task performance without direct reproductive conflict in Polybia occidentalis, a swarm-founding eusocial wasp. Polybia occidentalis workers engaged in social bitin...

We describe a mixed gynandromorph of Xylocopa (Neoxylocopa) nigrocincta from a single specimen from Argentina. The specimen presents bilateral asymmetry, with the right half of its head displaying male characters and the left half displaying female characters; the mesosoma presents male characters mostly in the right half of the prothorax, pronotal lobe and distal half of the fore tibia and in ...
متن کاملDominance behaviour and regulation of foraging in the primitively eusocial wasp Ropalidia marginata (Lep.) (Hymenoptera: Vespidae).
Ropalidia marginata is a primitively eusocial, polistine wasp widely distributed in peninsular India. In spite of its primitively eusocial status, queens of R. marginata are surprisingly docile and behaviourally non-dominant (except during the first week or so of their careers as queens). Yet they successfully maintain reproductive monopoly throughout their careers, probably through the use of ...
متن کاملMorphology and ultrastructure of the Dufour gland in workers of social wasps (Hymenoptera, Vespidae).
The Dufour gland in workers of vespine wasps appears as an unpaired tubiform gland that opens in close proximity to the sting base. The epithelial cells that line the central reservoir are characterized by apical microvillus-like projections and deep basal invaginations. Their cytoplasm contains a well-developed Golgi apparatus, numerous mitochondria, as well as strands of smooth endoplasmic re...

Twenty species and six subspecies of nine genera of eumenine wasps with a petiolate metasoma occurring in the Lesser Sunda Islands are listed. New synonymies are proposed for Delta campaniforme campaniforme (Fabricius 1775) (=D. campaniforme gracilior Giordani Soika 1986, syn. nov.) and D. nigriculum Giordani Soika 1986, stat. nov.
